The craft beer industry has been growing exponentially across the world, something that keeps on catching more and more momentum here in Canada. We are so fortunate to have 100+ local breweries in Alberta alone. The artistry of the brewmasters is incredible and the range of new creations being released almost daily is so amazing. Always something new to try and if you are not a fan of beer, I urge you to stop by and keep an open mind, as there are so many flavours that there is bound to be one you will like, if not love.
This venture has been almost two years in the making and I am so excited it is now a reality that The Beer Den will be opening it's doors for business very soon. It has been a true labour of love and my hope is that the community of Cochrane will embrace The Beer Den and enjoy the constant variety of local craft beer and wines to try. I am really looking forward to becoming a part of this close-knit community and cannot wait to meet you all.
Where it Began
I didn’t always love beer, but my passion for travel changed that. I had just turned eighteen and while on a 4-month backpacking trip around Europe some new friends in Germany introduced me to beer with lemonade. It was so delicious and refreshing that I continued to keep trying local brews in each of the countries I visited and discovered that there was so much variety. I’ve been hooked ever since. It’s amazing that no matter what the location or language spoken, you will find the same passion for locally crafted beer and the willingness to talk about it to anyone that will listen and learn.
I have always had craft beers at home and converted many friends and family that wouldn’t otherwise have tried many of the offerings that were given them. There’s just something about draught beer that is so delicious but it was only ever available in the local pub, restaurant or local brewery. It only made sense to have a one stop shop to purchase a large variety of craft beers both home grown and from abroad. This is a business model that has been around for many years in the United States but was in its infancy in Canada a couple of years ago. There are now more places popping up in Alberta that have a similar offering and it can only enhance the growing beer industry that is putting Alberta on the map for something other than energy resources.
Beer is definitely a huge focus, however finding that special bottle of wine that transports you to a different time and place is pretty special as well. I’m always amazed at how pairings with certain foods can completely change the taste of the beer or wine as well as the food. The chemistry of finding that perfect pairing is unbelievable. The first time I was introduced to dark chocolate and a full-bodied red wine was life changing. Now I want to share that experience and much more for all the people who frequent The Beer Den.
